If you are stopped by a police officer…
When you see blue flashing lights in the rearview mirror– remain calm. A police cruiser wants you to stop your vehicle. Officers may stop drivers when they see a traffic violation or if the person or vehicle matches the description of someone in an investigation. These “checks” usually involve the officer asking for your license and registration. The officer may ask where you’ve been and where you are going. These simple questions can be stressful for the driver being stopped!
To increase your awareness of potential conflicts, always think "WHAT IF . . ." about each item that may end up in your path of travel. How many "WHAT IF's . . ." can you spot?

When their 16-year-old son Gabriel missed his Friday night curfew, Charles and Maureen Puccia started to fear the worst. They wouldn't know for hours that Gabe had died with two teenage friends in a crash earlier that night.
Gabe's night started out without much of a plan. He and some friends were supposed to meet at a pancake house, but only a few people showed up. That's when Gabe and others headed home to watch the playoffs.
There is no single season when aggressive drivers are out in force. They are on the roads throughout the year, regardless of the weather, the day of the week or the holiday. Also, there is no single reason why they behave poorly. Aggressive driving isn't only about road rage. It's also about endangering other road-users by ignoring laws, taking risks and intimidation. When you head to the driver's seat, leave your pride behind.
This assignment is designed to create dialogue between parents and students about the family vehicle. You may use other questions for similar assignments. If a student doesn’t have a car at home; they could do this in a neighbor’s vehicle.
As an instructor, I would go over these things in the driver ed car.
Their struggles are unique to their age group which bridges childhood and adulthood. Besides sports, music, and hi-tech toys, what do you suppose makes teens happy? Most say that family and friends make them happiest. So what can you, as a parent, do to provide support and encouragement?
