Test Your Knowledge of Road Signs

Here's a simple road sign quiz in pdf from Idaho which can be used in a Driver Education class. There are 50 pictures and pavement markings for the class to identify. Answers are at the end. The use of some of these signs will vary by state. For example, sign #50 is a caution sign which one might see in California. Sign #48. is a brown information sign indicating a boat docks ahead. The majority are what a driver would see in each state and, therefore, valuable to know. Can you score 100%?

Finding Reference Points

Here's another handy tool from Idaho for use in a Driver Ed class. I like that it explains how the driver sees a reference point line up on the front or back of a car. There's very little text. It just shows diagrams with car positions that allow you to line up various points on the car with points on the road in order to place your tires precisely where you want within the lane. These reference points can be adapted to different sized vehicles.

New Teaching Tool: Zone Control

Introduction to Zone Control

This 20 page pdf by Fred Mottola offers large, easy to read graphics on how to use Zone Control when driving. There are many diagrams and charts that are simple and concise. It describes your line of sight when driving, zone conditions, locations and control. Some background knowledge may be needed to use this in a Driver Ed classroom, yet it's clear that this is about controlling the space around your vehicle when you drive.

Choose Respect: Teaching Kids/Teens about Healthy Relationships

Healthy relationships are about trust, honesty, and compromise. Sounds simple enough, but sometimes kids don’t see relationships in such black-and-white terms. Between "I just called to say hi," and "Why aren’t you texting me back?" lie many shades of gray that adults can help kids and teens understand. Being an adolescent can be tough.

Adolescence is a time when kids and teens learn how to make decisions about relationships with their friends, family, and girlfriends or boyfriends. What they learn now, about how to treat others, will affect relationships throughout their lifetime. But kids and teens can’t do this by themselves.
