There is no single season when aggressive drivers are out in force. They are on the roads throughout the year, regardless of the weather, the day of the week or the holiday. Also, there is no single reason why they behave poorly. Aggressive driving isn't only about road rage. It's also about endangering other road-users by ignoring laws, taking risks and intimidation.
Question: What connects you and your vehicle to the ground?
Answer: Tires
Observation: When the connection is gone, you and your vehicle are air born, which means you have no control unless you have a propeller and rudder. This makes tire maintenance absolutely necessary in order to drive a vehicle on the road.
Here's another handy tool from Idaho for use in a Driver Ed class. I like that it explains how the driver sees a reference point line up on the front or back of a car. There's very little text. It just shows diagrams with car positions that allow you to line up various points on the car with points on the road in order to place your tires precisely where you want within the lane. These reference points can be adapted to different sized vehicles.
If you are stopped by a police officer…
When you see blue flashing lights in the rearview mirror– remain calm. A police cruiser wants you to stop your vehicle. Officers may stop drivers when they see a traffic violation or if the person or vehicle matches the description of someone in an investigation. These “checks” usually involve the officer asking for your license and registration. The officer may ask where you’ve been and where you are going. These simple questions can be stressful for the driver being stopped!
A significant percentage of young drivers are involved in traffic crashes and are twice as likely as adult drivers to be in a fatal crash. Sixteen-year-old drivers have crash rates that are three times greater than 17-year-old drivers, five times greater than 18-year-old drivers, and twice the rate of 85-year-old drivers.
September 17th, Saturday— An overcast, but warm, late summers day. The last day of my life as I knew it. I had turned 21 the month before and was looking forward to my trip to California. Where I would attend the Musicians Institute for Guitar. All the arrangements had been made. I had already been playing guitar for 16 years and had dreams of becoming "A Rock Guitar legend."
I had been told by many that I had great musical talent. Unfortunately, I also possessed a propensity for speed.
Identify the controls of a motorcycle
Don't get caught by surprise while you're driving! To increase your awareness of potential conflicts, always ask yourself "WHAT IF . . ." about each item that may end up in your path of travel. How many "WHAT IF's . . ." can you spot?
